Maps

Two worlds, one character. You can start on either map. We recommend Cloud Mist Forest, the base game, since it carries the bulk of the core progression. Shifting Sands is the Egypt-themed desert map. Each runs as its own instance with its own direct-connect address.

Map Role Address
Cloud Mist Forest Base game · core progression · recommended start 100.127.87.32:8777
Shifting Sands Egypt-themed desert map · also a fine starting point 100.127.87.32:8778

Travel between maps freely through the in-world ocean portal. Your character, mask, tech tree, and recruited tribesmen carry across; buildings and local storage stay on the map where you built them. One heads-up: your very first character is anchored to its home map, so to cross, take control of one of your tribesmen and walk them through the portal.

Tuning

Benchmarked against the official permanent PvE servers, not stock single-player. The core XP and gathering rates sit right at the official baseline; taming, crafting, carry, and the quality-of-life drains go a step beyond, while combat, AI, and boss difficulty stay at the official standard so the challenge is intact.

Setting This server Official PvE Effect
XP (all tracks) Matches the official permanent rate
Gathering & loot At official; less grind per resource
Taming & recruitment 1.5× Twice the official taming speed
Crafting speed Twice as fast at the bench as official
Carry weight Triple the official carry limit
Resource regen stock Nodes and wildlife refill faster than official
Survival drain Reduced Stock Food, water, and durability tick down slower
Building decay Near-off Stock A week away won't cost you your base
Tribe & recruit caps Raised Stock Bigger settlements than official allows
Invasions Softened Stock Scheduled, infrequent, base-safe. Content, not harassment
Combat · AI · bosses Official Official Difficulty kept at the official standard

Schedule

When Event
Daily · 02:00 CT Shifting Sands restart. In-game warnings beforehand, save snapshot taken before stop. Back online within a couple minutes.
Daily · 03:00 CT Cloud Mist Forest restart. Same warning and snapshot flow.
All other hours PvE only. Always on.

Shifting Sands restarts before Cloud Mist Forest to respect the cluster stop-order. The daily cadence keeps memory healthy; engine snapshots are taken before each stop.

Backups

Four tiers stacked, each closing the gap left by the next coarser one. A bad pull, a corrupted save, or a regretted decision rolls back to whichever tier matches the elapsed time. The last tier lives offsite for protection against host-level loss.

Tier Cadence Coverage Method
1 30 min 24 h Engine auto-backup, 24-hour rolling
2 Daily 14 d Full save tarball at each restart
3 Daily 7 d System rsync with hardlinks
4 Daily 14 d · 6 mo Encrypted offsite to Cloudflare R2 (restic, auto-synced)

Security

The server is not on the public internet. Access is gated by a private Tailscale/WireGuard mesh, and the public IP rejects unsolicited traffic. Game traffic binds to the private interface, never the public one.

Public exposure None. Public IP rejects unsolicited traffic
Network access Private Tailscale mesh only
Admin endpoints Loopback-bound, never network-reachable
Cluster link Private container network only, never published
Maintenance Auto-patched; redundant recovery on misbehavior

Roadmap

No wipes planned. Your character, tribe, and bases are permanent. All of it.

Phase What
Now Runs Soulmask 1.0 as a two-map cluster and tracks the game's roughly-weekly patches as they ship. No reset on patch.
Ongoing Both maps stay linked and online, patched and supported. This is a long-term home, not a limited-time event. A quiet week or an empty night changes nothing, and you'll always get plenty of notice before any major change.

Translation: if you're invested in this world, keep playing. Nothing about your character, tribe, or bases goes away on a patch.

Joining

Three steps, about five minutes total. No payment, no workshop dance. One install and you're in.

That install is Tailscale, the private WireGuard network Mozilla, OpenAI, and modern engineering teams run their own infrastructure on. On this server it means zero public exposure: no bot scans, no DDoS, latency stays tight, and the player list stays clean. You join the network once, and from then on Soulmask is just there.

Step What
1 Click the Tailscale share link in Discord to join the network. Free Tailscale account, about two minutes.
2 Install Tailscale, sign in, and you're on the network. (Quick check: ping 100.127.87.32. If it answers, you're set.)
3 Launch Soulmask and use Direct Connect. Either map works: Cloud Mist Forest at 100.127.87.32:8777 (recommended for new players), Shifting Sands at 100.127.87.32:8778. Welcome in.
